The A.L. Cochrane Scholarship was established by the Canadian federal government to acknowledge the achievements of young athletes in high school and post-secondary education who aspire to continue competing on an international level while pursuing their educational goals at the same time. The scholarship covers a wide range of athletics, including sports like badminton, baseball, curling, fencing, figure skating, golf, gymnastics, rowing and tennis as well as many more as long as you’re willing to compete internationally at both the junior and senior levels. The A.L. Cochrane Scholarship offers Canadian graduates $5,000 towards one year of study in any field at any university in Canada, provided they were accepted to that program through U of T’s Engineering Admissions office and are returning to full-time studies after their degree at U of T. The scholarship was established by the family and friends of A.L.
Those who receive the A.L. Cochrane Scholarship receive a one-time grant of up to $25,000 to be used for educational expenses or initiatives related to their field of study. This grant can be used to pay tuition fees, buy textbooks, fund travel expenses, and more.
In addition to the grant money, recipients of the scholarship also gain access to a network of past and current scholars, receive mentorship and leadership opportunities, and are invited to participate in professional development programs.
