An 11-year old Godfred Gyamfi, a class four (4) pupil of Sarah Donkor Preparatory School at Goka in the Jaman North district has been beaten mercilessly by his step Dad for leaving his school bag outside after school.
Speaking to Mr Afram Enoch, headmaster of the said school says on Thursday after school, he was going home with Gyamfi, but he spotted a stain of blood in his uniform.
He asked Gyamfi and he explained to him he was beaten by his step Dad for failure to keep his school bag indoors.
The victim Gyamfi said he left his bag outside after school and his step Dad asked him to bring the bag inside if not he (Mr Kwaku Carpenter) will beat him like he used to do that all the times him. Fears griped Gyamfi so he left the house to go and sleep somewhere.
Mr Kwaku Carpenter searched for Gyamfi around 10 pm in the night, saw him and used his belt on the boy which made him sustain severe injuries at his hands and back.
According to Mr Afram Enoch, as he couldn’t hold on to such an unreasonable act by his step-Dad, he took pictures and videos of the injuries on his hands and back. Mr Carpenter threatened to deal with him if he let police arrest him.
He (the Headmaster) reported him to the police, which led to the arrest of Mr Carpenter on Sunday.
According to the Headmaster, said he was handed over to the DOVVSU headquarters at Berekum but yesterday he saw Mr Carpenter in his house which he doesn’t know what happened as he was referred to the DOVVSU headquarters at Berekum.
So he was compelled to go and ask why Mr Carpenter was granted bail just after he was handed over to DOVVSU headquarters at Berekum, but the police told him they know nothing about Mr Carpenter been left by the DOVVSU headquarters at Berekum.
Mr Enock said Gyamfi, who sustained severe injuries was sent to Goka clinic for treatment after the incident. He is now in good condition and even went to school today.
