- Hon Ernest Victor Apau, District Chief Executive(DCE) for Ho West has distributed grafted citrus, coconut and other seedlings to 85 persons today. He said 200 farmers are to benefit from coconut and 200 from citrus. 500 to benefit from cashew, 100 from oil palm and 1500 from cocoa seedlings. The assembly works on cocoa seedlings in partnership with COCOBOD.
The DCE is implementing model farms where farmers are selected and supported to ensure every community has someone to learn from.
“This initiative will help campaign for the youth to go into tree crop investment”, he said.
Last year, DCE apart from general distribution supported 60 people with a token to prepare the land. He has been doing this every year since the assumption of office.
The DCE being a lover of tree crop plantation, did a demonstration to beneficiaries on planting and other cultural practices.
He also took beneficiaries to observe the citrus he planted for the assembly in 2018 that are being harvested already.
The DCE believes that the farms will be used for research in various areas across the district to ginger the youth into agriculture.
He is grateful to all who have accepted the challenge to be part of this initiative.
He said it is his greatest desire that this will continue so that Ho West becomes a great processor of these in few years since the varieties are very good and early maturing.
