The president of the Republic of Ghana, His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo as part of his annual working tour to the Sixteen regions in the country visited the Central Region on Monday, 18th October 2021.
He was engaged in an interactive session on Eagle FM in Cape Coast this morning and he outlined his plans for the Komenda sugar factory.
According to the President, in construction, the roof of a building is not constructed before the foundation, which is what happened with Komenda, hence where we find ourselves now.
On the way forward, the president said the dynamic and energetic Trade Minister, Hon Alan Kyerematen and his team are working on it”.
An audit carried out on the project indicated that the value had been overvalued. A lot of money has been spent on the Komenda sugar factory.
After several efforts, a strategic investor was chosen but was unable to meet the conditions precedent.
The Ministry is working on getting a strategic partner to run it. My Information is that by the 1st quarter of 2022, the factory will start running.
“Lots of investment have gone down the drain though, but we will not allow the factory to rot”, the president added.
