The National Science and Maths quiz mistress, Dr Elsie Effah Kaufmann is saddened by the way our educational system is structured. She stated emphatically that engineering students are supposed to be innovative. They are the ones supposed to be doing the wonderful things to see us develop. But she is in doubt if we are achieving that results.
Speaking on KSM Show on matters concerning our educational system, she made it known that students who sit with her on stage with their superb performance have not been able to perform or put those wonderful ideas into useful outcome. She made references to the winners of the 2018 National Science and Maths Quiz, Kissi Annoh Kwaku and Fenny Benjamin of ST. Peter’s SHS went to see the president. According to her, the young men speak eloquently. But her hopes about these young men were dashed when they could not compete with other students in Portugal.
She said they could not compete because they could not understand and recognize the equipment they were given.
She emphasized the need to rethink the way we are teaching and educating our people because they have so much potential but it is not being translated into a useful product.
Her revelations call for a paradigm shift in our educational system.
