The veterinary Office of the Jaman North district Agric Directorate has recently discovered an outbreak of African Swine Fever which has attacked several pigs and killed over 200 pigs within a week in some seven (7) farms. The virus according to the veterinary officer was first detected and confirmed at Jankufa, a community in the Jaman North District.
Speaking to the affected farmers, they stated that, the death rate of their pigs is extremely worrisome hence government and the Jaman North district assembly should support them. They stressed how they have spent on the rearing of the pigs since its commencement and how the African Swine Fever has affected their investment.
They made this appeal at a sensitization program organized by the Jaman North agriculture directorate and the veterinary officer for the pig farmers and other stakeholders on how to combat the spread of the virus within and outside the district.
The farmers, therefore, pleaded with the government, the Jaman North district directorate and other stakeholders to support them in kind or in cash to help them recover from their losses.
