The Greater Accra Regional Minister, Hon Henry Quartey has demanded the immediate transfer of the Environmental Health Officer for Ayawaso Central Municipal, Emmanuel Sonni Alohleveh for failure to report to work for two weeks without permission.

The Regional Minister who is relentless in his efforts to make Accra work is now focused on his constituency, Ayawaso Central Municipality.

The joint team of Accra Metropolitan Assembly(AMA) officials, Sanitation Task Force, Municipal Chief Executive and the Regional Minister, Henry Quartey stormed the Mallam Atta Market on Tuesday, 27 July 2021. The team was embarking on a decongestion exercise.

The Regional Minister was alarmed by the unsanitary sights on the road.

He, therefore, demanded the whereabouts of the Municipal Environmental Health Officer.

The Municipal Coordinating Director, Eugenia Agbenyegah explained that the Municipal Health Officer, Mr Sonni Alohleveh sought permission to be absent on medical grounds.

The Regional Minister was not satisfied with the response, so he demanded the medical report. The Minister said, “this is government business. I beg you, if he is not feeling well, he should go and being someone else to work”.

The team proceeded to Panaman, where several containers built along drains were demolished.

“Who is the owner? Okay, task force, start breaking from here, go on, let’s go, break it! The owner will come, don’t worry,” Mr Quartey could be heard saying.

Amidst tears and angry rants, owners of the structures tried to stop the officials from doing their job. But the Police intervened to restore order.

Their final stop was Alajo, where a church auditorium right next to the Alajo main drain was pulled down.

MCE for the Ayawaso Central, Alhaji Mohammed Quaye, who was upset owing to the filth in his locality said the prosecution of sanitation offenders will intensify under his watch.
