Teachers to be excluded from School PTAs

Teachers at the Basic and Senior High/Technical Schools in the country are expected to be excluded as members of the Parents and Teachers Associations (PTAs) in our various schools.

The Information gathered by EducationGhana’s Ellis Ferdinand suggests that some district Education directorates have begun issuing directives to schools to exclude teachers from being members of the PTAs.

The information reveals that teachers who want to be part of the PTA according to information gathered, are supposed to be teachers whose wards are in the schools.

The name Shall be changed to Parents Association (PA) from the usual Parents and Teachers Association(PTA).

Reason Behind this initiative

According to reports, the reason for the change of name is to allow parents take decisions freely without necessarily involving teachers.

It has been argued, that the teacher’s involvement mostly led to the sending of students home for dues and other PTA levies.

Some teachers who had the chance to speak with the news team on the change of name believed the decision to change the name and exclude teachers, was a misplaced priority.
