Ghana has started its 6th Census Post-independence?
Census officials have been tasked to chalk all structures and ask a few questions about households. After listing, enumeration will follow where census officers will derive detailed information from residents.
Delivering a “paperless census” for Ghana is a key feature in the 2021 Population and Housing Census(PHC). Traditionally, censuses in Ghana have been conducted using paper questionnaires, manuals and maps. This innovation of using mobile devices means adopting a digital and environmentally friendly approach.
After a day’s work, enumerators are supposed to sync data through Bluetooth to their supervisors. Supervisors will then sync data to headquarters using a network. “No sync means no sleep” since GSS don’t want data collected to be lost.
Pazionglobalnews.com has chanced upon some pictures concerning the 2021 PHC. From what was seen, some census officers are going through a lot to meet the timeline and give accurate data. A guy was spotted on top of a tree trying to get the network to complete the process. Network glitches is a major problem facing many rural communities in Ghana.
Another picture spotted online that has raised mixed feelings from netizens is the one where one census officer used his physical strength to raise another female census officer to chalk a structure. Netizens with eagle eyes have spotted something funny about the picture and have shared their feelings about the incident.
